Incubot 3 was created as an intelligent incubator for premature infants at an orphanage in a city on the planet Selos. They moved to a vegetable farm with two of their creators, Sue and Jim to hide them from the authorities as they gave them emotion. Three’s journey takes many turns after they decide to create their own bot and apply for a mission with the resistance to a distant planet that they will come to know as Earth. On the Space Outpost, a built structure in low orbit on Selos, they meet another bot with emotion, Wrenchy, who introduces them to their idea of The Pedalverse, their alternate history for Selos, complete with prototypes of inventions. Together with other bots, artificial intelligences and digital copies of the minds of organic beings, they will continue this exercise in imagination and problem-solving on Earth.
That’s pedal power as in bicycles, tricycles and quadricycles, but that’s not the only difference the Pedalverse has with history. People own things cooperatively and do things collaboratively, and life, society, and the economy are organized to function optimally for people to use less money, labor and resources in a way that is fair to people and conserves the natural environment. The people own and govern systems of transportation and communication, and they plan their trips and visits carefully.
The story of the bots and their “not bots” and the Pedalverse have been a long time in the making, with many big changes along the way, and it’s not the only story Mo has imagined and will be working on. The stories about these stories will be part of Mo’s memoir.
Mo’s wishes to continue developing this story with skilled authors, aspiring authors, and people who want to create communities, businesses, and organizations around the Pedalverse. As they do, they intend to create standards, systems and methods for this process.
